Ingredients
Scale
For the Brownie Layer:
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
For the Cookie Layer:
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup chocolate chips
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease it lightly.
Step 2: Make the Brownie Batter
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
- Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder, stirring until combined.
- Pour the brownie batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
Step 3: Make the Cookie Dough
- In another bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy.
- Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients, stirring until combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips.
Step 4: Assemble the Brookies
- Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough on top of the brownie batter.
- Use a spatula or your fingers to gently spread the cookie dough, leaving some brownie batter visible for a marbled effect.
Step 5: Bake
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cookie layer is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Let the brookies cool in the pan for 15-20 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- Don’t overmix the batters, especially the cookie dough, to keep them soft and chewy.
- For extra gooey brookies, bake for slightly less time (around 22-25 minutes).
- Use high-quality cocoa powder for the best brownie flavor.
- Chill the dough for 10-15 minutes before baking if you prefer a thicker cookie layer.
